Shoujoboy's Shadows of the Damned Game Review

Rated: 5

If you've played Gears of War you've pretty much played Shadows of the Damned. The main difference is that you aren't dealing with any cover mechanics and strategy is never necessary. It has that same feel in it's controls and you still have the whole "stomp the enemy into the ground" thing going on but this is more just run and gun and never look back. It's a game that's never difficult, even on it's hardest setting and never seems to get you too excited with over-the-top action or tense situations. You might mess up here and there but you'll never be stuck anywhere too long.

Shoujoboy's Marvel vs Capcom 3 Game Review

Rated: 7

Here's where the glowing review will lose a little bit of it's luster.

The first thing that should be mentioned is that if you were a master of Marvel vs Capcom 2 and you expected those skills would carry over... well, think again. There's no more LP, HP, LK, HK going on, instead it went for Weak, Strong, Fierce and a pop-up button. You don't ever have to wonder if a character pops up the other with a down+HP or just a HK, there's one button that does that for every character. It takes some getting used to and definitely takes a while to reprogram yourself from your Marvel vs Capcom 2 days.

Shoujoboy's Hoshi no Koe Ova Review

Rated: 4

Voices of a Distant Star is much like a famous painting that you just don't like. You can look at it and appreciate it's beauty and the work that went into it but you simply can't find yourself liking it despite that appreciation. When you read about it on paper and understand that Makoto Shinkai pretty much made this entire thing on his own, you can't help but want to shake the guy's hand. The English localization team credits is larger than the animation, seiyuu, director, producer and screenwriter of the original release combined. So as a solo work, it's nothing short of amazing.

But, it's not my job to tell you what you should appreciate. My job is to tell you whether you'll enjoy this and if I did. Fact is, it's simply not enjoyable.

Shoujoboy's Lelouch of the Rebellion Tv Review

Lelouch of the Rebellion

Rated: 5

Code Geass is another one of those shows that has an almost ravenous following. After season 1, I kind of understood that. It was a borderline brilliant anime that was only missing a few elements to make it a masterpiece. But after season 2, I honestly wonder if it gained more of a following just because of the Lelouch and CC obsession instead of the plot it was trying to pull off. I expected at any moment that this show would just knock my socks off and make me shiver with excitement once again, but instead I found myself counting down the episodes until it was all over. Some may argue that the ending brought the whole thing together, but there's only one problem with that; I saw the whole thing coming about 5 episodes before.

Shoujoboy's Scrapped Princess Tv Review

Scrapped Princess

Rated: 8

Adventure anime is a genre that has been on a sharp decline over the years. In years past, Slayers and Record of Lodoss War were gold standards in not only their genre, but anime in general as entertainment. But with the moe craze, the video game/anime tie ins and just the explosion of the harem genre, adventure anime has all but been left behind. Scrapped Princess is one that might have been overlooked or left behind in it's day, but I assure you that it's worth a look.

The story isn't the deepest you may have ever seen, but it's a fun one to experience. Following a group of siblings as they fight for survival and seek answers to questions that they don't even understand, is a fun ride.

Shoujoboy's Air Tv Review

Air

Rated: 5

Air is supposed to be one of those shows I love. Now the show did have all the ingredients necessary to create one hell of an experience; great animation, moving music, adorable yet fragile characters and more. But essentially Air is like a cake batter that has concrete added to it just before you bake it (the concrete obviously being the plot). It weighed down and absolutely ruined what would be an otherwise tasty cake (no more cake analogies I promise).

Of course, if a stirring plotline isn't a requirement for you to enjoy a show, then this still may prove to be a wonderful experience. If viewed simply as a superficial work of cute characters, then it's bound to be a good time.

Shoujoboy's Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Game Review

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3

Rated: 8

Reviewer's Note: I put in over 150 hours to get the full experience of this game so I could provide the most accurate review. The least you could do is give me 3 minutes to detail all the gameplay aspects. There will be cookies and milk at the end.

Battle: All battle will take place in Tartarus or during full moon events. There are no random battles. When going through Tartarus you will see black blobs with 4 arms aimlessly wandering around. If they see you, they'll come after you and try to get the opening attack, but if you sneak up on them you do. Once that happens you will go into the battle screen. As with previous persona games, you control your main character and can only issue general commands to your teammates.

Shoujoboy's Sola Tv Review

Sola

Rated: 9

I went into Sola with no knowledge of exactly what the show was about. From the opening through the end of episode one, I expected an average show that would dabble in romance or possibly even harem comedy. I had no idea the depth and the dark atmosphere I'd be later viewing. Let's get one thing straight, compared to many anime out there, Sola is fairly shallow on plot. But this show proved that an epic, normal human imagination shattering plot isn't always necessary. A simple, well told story can prove to be just as entertaining. That's what Sola does and does so well. It gives you a simple premise and expounds on it from there. In the end, you are going to be given an ending that every viewer will react differently to.

Shoujoboy's Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Game Review

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

Rated: 8

Reviewer's note: Beings that I consider myself a Final Fantasy master, and I know that Square loves to give out extras when you play higher difficulty, I decided to play this game on hard during my first try. My review will be based on that experience. Please keep your comments of "I played hard and it was easy" to yourself. You are a liar! Also, this section will be rather lengthy. There is a lot to cover that all has a large part to do with the overall score. Bear with me.

The DMW: The Digital Mind Wave, or DMW, is your friend and your enemy. You live and die by this slot machine of death. During any combat there will be a slot machine spinning in the top-left corner.

Shoujoboy's Death Note Tv Review

Death Note

Rated: 7

Oh Death Note, what am I to do with you? I wanted to love you dearly and all you did was make my love unrequited. As I've said, Death Note IS good but it just isn't great. That feeling of intrigue that floods you in the beginning fades after a while, and once it does, that's when Death Note loses it's luster. From about the midpoint on, all you really want is a conclusion to it all but instead get many episodes of drudgery. When you do finally get to the end of it all, the storytelling is well done... BUT, it's a bit too predictable in a show that has been everything but.

It has some great characters to love and absolutely abhor. A strong start and a strong finish. Music that amplifies the atmosphere as well as makes you lose your damn mind. It's got fun written all over it...
